Let me guess, some unnamed people have ingrained in your brain that lifting heavy, or lifting weights at all, will make you “bulky”. I’m here to tell you that’s BS, and it’s time women take command of the weight floor.
Let me start by saying that I am not a psychologist or a therapist. This is coming from experience training many different people and training myself. This is meant to be a helpful read to at least get you thinking in the right direction. That direction is knowing training includes a mental approach and should be treated just as seriously, if not more, than the physical, recovery, and nutritional pillars of training.
There are so many reasons why I love Zumba. First, it’s a fantastic workout. Each class is HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) structured to incredible music, where most of the routines are fast paced, making it a brilliant workout for your heart that never gets boring. In fact, the average person can burn around 400 to 600 calories per class. Second, I have connected with so many amazing people and I get to groove with a diverse community every week. But the most phenomenal reason for why I love Zumba is how I get to literally dance the rhythms of my ancestors.
Journaling, much like meditation, is one of the things you hear about being “really good for you.” However, if you don’t set aside time for either, then you simply won’t do them. It’s a matter of building a habit; writing in the same place at the same time every day that creates a lasting impact. Once you build the momentum it becomes a practice that can be of a great benefit to your mental and emotional health.
