Need a Workout Buddy? Get into Group Fitness!

Posted by Juan De Cruz

Trying to workout more often? Just about every article on the internet will tell you that one way to do so is to get a workout buddy. Unfortunately, finding a reliable workout buddy can sometimes feel like a workout on its own. Does that mean you simply need to learn how to enjoy exercising all by your lonesome? No, it just means you need to ditch the idea of looking for a workout buddy, and opt for group fitness instead.

You'll Never Have to Workout Alone

Exercising is a lot more fun when you turn it into a social thing. That's the reason why everyone is recommending that you get a buddy to workout with you. However, differing schedules can make it hard to get to the gym at the same time as your buddy. Hence, it makes a lot more sense to join a group exercise class at the gym. Regardless of which fitness class you decide to join, there will always be others there to workout with you.

Meet New Athletic Friends

Since exercise classes are as much of a social thing as it is a fitness thing, you're bound to make some new friends while sweating away. And they won't be just any old friends. They'll be athletic friends who care about health and fitness. Also, since they're able to join the same classes as you, it's safe to say that their schedules are somewhat similar to yours. So if you're still looking for a workout buddy outside of exercise class, you can more easily find one within the class.

Four Reasons To Work Out At A Gym

Posted by Juan De Cruz

Apr 6, 2015

Many people prefer to work out at their home. They don't want to embarrass themselves because they are out of shape. They don't want to sweat (quickly) in front of others. They might be intimidated by the many machines and fancy classes that a gym offers.

However, there are many good reasons to get off of your butt and join a fitness gym today.

  • Try something new. Sometimes you need to try something new to find out that you really love something. You may find a fun new way to fit exercise into your schedule. It might be so much fun that it won't feel like work (as much).
  • Motivation. You will find motivation at a gym. Whether you find workout buddies to monitor and share your progress or bodies that you admire, you should find plenty of motivation at a gym. Maybe you might find a few classes that you hate to miss.
  • Childcare. Many people use the excuse that they can't exercise because of their children. Many gyms offer childcare, whether or not it is included in the monthly fee or not. Then, you have no reason not to exercise.
  • Personal Trainers. Whether you are just starting an exercise routine or you have been exercising a while, you might need a personal trainer to help you reach your goals. Maybe you need help setting realistic goals and meeting them. A personal trainer might just help you get on your way.

Though you might not want to join a gym, you might find yourself loving it once you do. You will find yourself with a whole lot of different opportunities to take classes and use different machines. This will change the way that you exercise. Then, if you use a personal trainer, you may reach your goals quickly and decide to push even harder. If you have children, you may also take advantage of a gym that offers childcare so you can’t use that excuse either.

The Major Rule for Eating Fruit

Posted by Paula Chaney

Mar 16, 2015

Fruit is healthy for us and there's no doubt that eating fruit is important in our overall health and well being. In some of my healthy eating research, I have discovered guidelines about eating fruit that we should follow in order to get full benefits for our health. It’s just not about putting fruit in our mouth whenever we feel like it. It’s about learning the proper ways to eat fruit so our body will thank us with less digestive problems and tons more energy.

Conquering Slacker Mountain

Posted by Juan De Cruz

Mar 13, 2015

I am moving in one week and everything that goes with it has disrupted my routine. Lately I have been fatigued, mostly due to stress. It has not been a surprise to turn around and find I have missed three consecutive days of workouts or that I traded a good run for a stretch on the couch.

Stress is a sneaky siren. Her call has you capsizing into the doldrums with not much hope of rowing yourself out. Although I know that giving into it merely generates more stress, I succumb to her sometimes. Yesterday my husband came home early from work, at 3:30 pm. I had two choices; I knew if I worked quickly I could beat him to the punch, calling "gym!" before he called out "golf!" (think "Shot Gun!" for parents and imagine me putting on my shoes as I hop and bump my way out the front door - leaving husband reaching for golf clubs, mouth open and children with confused expression frozen on face). If I didn't work quickly I would forgo my window of opportunity and gave in to my tired body. I mustered everything in my stressed out downtrodden being and reached for my shoes.... "gym!" I yelled, shocking my family, old dog, new dog and probably half of the neighborhood, beating my poor sweet husband to the coveted front seat of freedom. (This is of course a dramatization- but it is an accurate description of how it feels to win alone time when you have kids.)

So as I pulled on my shoes, hopping out the front door, almost tripping over dogs and adjusting exercise pants which requires tugging and wiggling and looking quite foolish, I made the decision to run the two miles to the gym- leaving my cool comfortable car parked where she stood. HA! I believe the expression most appropriate here hints at a pool and jumping in rather than wading slowly. And so I took a deep breath and jumped feet first into the heat of the day. "Why?!", you ask, "Why would you do that to yourself"? Surely I must have died there on the side of the road and most likely I am typing this today from the great beyond! No. I made it. I ran the whole way and ended up at the gym a sweaty, stinky, thirsty mess.

The point is, I tried. I did it. I ran to the gym after a couple days without a workout and forced myself to demand a couple inches of space among all the other guys and gals and punched out a leg workout. Afterwards, I slowly walked myself home.

The key here is: Just give it a go. Tell yourself twenty minutes, you are only going to commit to twenty minutes and if you're still tired, you'll go home. Usually, if you begin a work out, no matter how tired you believe you are, you'll find your footing along the way and finish it. And even if it is half ass, you will have moved. You will have injected something positive into your stressed out worn out day. You will have Conquered Slacker Mountain and you'll feel better!

There is no happiness except in the realization that we have accomplished something.
