Curious about where to start on your weight loss journey? Get back to basics with these effective fat-loss tips.

Make a Plan

When first setting your weight loss goals, it's important to make a plan. Cover the legwork for your future self regarding aspects such as diet, exercise schedule, and the types of exercise you will perform. You can make planning easier by remembering to start slowly, including a workout buddy in your plans, and being flexible as you progress on your journey.

Up the Intensity

Turning up the intensity during your exercise can result in increased fat-burning compared to a slow and steady-paced cardio workout. Next time you are on the elliptical, treadmill, or performing another cardio exercise, try upping the speed or resistance for a few minutes. You can alternate between high and medium-low intensity in a method known as HIIT, or high intensity interval training, to boost fat-burning and save time in the gym.

Walk Instead

If possible, walk or bike to the places where you would normally drive. Take the stairs, take the long way, or if driving, park further away from your destination. Engaging in non-exercise activity will keep you on the move even when you are not in the gym, increasing calorie-burn and conditioning your body for your next workout.

Strength for Calorie-Burning

Cardio exercise provides the greatest capacity for burning calories in the gym, but did you know that adding strength-based exercise can increase calorie-burn while resting? Taking a day or two during the week to focus on strength building exercise, either by using weights or your own bodyweight, can keep you on track for achieving your weight reduction goals, and feeling better, too.

Consistency is Key

When it comes to your weight loss journey, consistency will take you further. Showing up at the gym for your planned workout, even if you are feeling discouraged, can be difficult. In those moments, attempting the workout is what will keep you on track for continued weight loss. Even if do you slip up on your diet and workout regimen, don't fret. Being consistent 80% of the time and staying focused will get you closer to your goals than giving up altogether.
