Yet, once you've taken that first step towards your goal, it's actually quite easy to be fully consumed by the new challenge. In other words, you might be so fascinated with your new goal of obtaining a healthy lifestyle that you spend more than a healthy amount of time working towards what you want to achieve.

However, obsessions are never a good thing, even if it's something that could be considered a healthy obsession by many. You need time to rest and not constantly worry about meeting your goal. That same logic is true when training for a race. Keep reading to learn the three benefits of rest and recuperation when training for a race of any distance.

Prevent Injuries

Running is great for your physical health. Unfortunately, running too much can actually increase your chances of getting injured. Therefore, it's actually best to take at least one day off from running every week to avoid getting injured before race day.

Lessen the Chances of You Growing Tired of Running

When you do something daily without rest it can start to feel like a chore. So if you want to avoid getting tired of running, you need to have days where you do anything but run. This will make it so that you end up appreciating the days that you do get to run even more.

Have Time for Other Activities You Enjoy

When training for a race, you'll inevitably spend a good portion of your free time running around. That means, you won't have as much time to devote to other activities. Hence, it's important to have at least one day a week where you're free to do other things either in or out of the gym.
