Diary of a Fitness Newbie: A Seven Nation Army Couldn’t Hold Me Back

BODYCOMBAT timeeeeeeeee! Ok guys, I think I found my favorite class because this one is AWESOME! Maybe it’s just my personality that made me enjoy this class, because the idea that I am spending an hour beating up an imaginary person really appeals to me.

It combined a lot of cardio and strength with running in place or doing the boxer shuffle in between high-powered attack moves. We might do a bunch of combination upper body attacks (such as left arm jab, right arm jab, left arm upper cut, repeat) and then move to the next section, which might be all kicks.

Merritt Clubs Cardio Classes

I admit that again, I can’t really handle the more complex combinations because choreography is my kryptonite, but the majority of the time it’s simple moves. And I am able to make up for when I struggle on those combos because I control how much power I put behind my moves so I compensate with my strength. If I’m having a bad day, I can go into this class and really attack that imaginary person and feel much better! It makes me feel so hard-core, like if someone tried to rob me on the street, I WOULD DESTROY THEM!!! Maybe this class should come with a warning: May cause inflated sense of power.

This class is a great add-on to my rotation because it’s a lot of strength and cardio, and also helps with my stress level. This class is almost like therapy and also training for when I join Fight Club. When you do regular forward jabs, you’re supposed to aim for a target, so I always pick the back of the person’s head in front of me. That may not be a good way to make friends in the class, but it does make me feel like I just crushed them in a fight, which is good for my rapidly-growing ego.

And, guess what? I am engaged now! You know what that means??? That I’m super stressed and can’t handle this life where I have to hand out giant deposit checks to my vendors all the time without wanting to hurt someone. This class is helping… And I also now have to be healthy or whatever because everyone keeps saying I have to put on an expensive dress soon and it has to fit me 9 months later. So I’m now on a mission to get really healthy, mind and body, so I don’t collapse under the weight of wedding stress.

Hey, if you’re looking for a class that makes you smile and you look forward to, try this at least once. And probably just start out in the back so you can learn all the moves without looking like an idiot when it gets fast paced. (Did you see the photos of me over here? The left one is me when I’m taking this class - if I were a dude with bulging, greasy muscles. The second one is what my body looks like now. Seriously, don’t I look great???)

Stay tuned for my next blog! It’s my last one :)
